Dalton Architectural and Freeman Specialties Partner with Protean

Protean Construction Products is pleased to announce that Dalton Architectural Services, Inc (DASI) of Houston, TX and Freeman Specialties of Indianapolis have partnered with the company as Manufacturer’s Representatives.

“Protean is looking to expand through Representation across the country”, said Troy Ethen, President CEO of Protean. “However, we need partners who take a consultative approach to recommending the right panel system for the project being considered. We are pleased to have DASI and Freeman Specialties partner with us, as they have proven themselves to bring added value to the architectural community instead of just peddling assorted products.”

Freeman Specialties, located in Indianapolis, IN will work exclusively in the state of Indiana to represent Protean. Offering their customers a more diverse array of products that are exceptional in performance and aesthetics has been a vision of Michelle Freeman, President of Freeman Specialties. “We are very excited to build a presence in this market with Protean”, said Michelle Freeman. Ms. Freeman has been in the architectural specification sales industry for the last decade but her first exposure to the industry was on a construction site with her father at 10 years old when he started a company, M.A.B & Associates, fabricating and installing custom decorative handrails. “Learning from a young age what a successful company needs from their suppliers has allowed me to be a valuable representative today.”

DASI, located in suburban Houston, will cover South Texas. Greg Dalton, founder and President of DASI, noted, “Our success is measured by bringing our clients high quality, innovative products to their buildings to the level where they turn to us for their next project. We look forward to continuing this approach with the Protean line.” Mr. Dalton has been in the architectural products business for over 30 years with experience in commercial fenestration, solar shading, and exterior wall cladding. “Understanding a project’s requirements from product application to installation is a value we offer our clients.”

Protean Releases New Brochure with Product Selection Guide

Protean Construction Products is pleased to announce that it has published new literature with a Product Selection Guide.

Protean has a passion to help architects create great buildings that last. They offer a broad range of metal cladding systems with flexible design characteristics to provide project specific solutions. Their new brochure helps architects imagine the form their vision will take, design around the product and system best suited for their wants and parameters, and create a specification for a building that achieves their vision.

“It can be easy for us to forget that the architectural community deals with dozens of aspects of building design. Remembering the details of each of these aspects can be daunting,” said Troy Ethen, President of Protean. “We are in the metal cladding business, so it is second nature for us to hone in on the product that meets the desired aesthetic at the lowest cost. That is all we do, every day. So we wanted to do something to help the architect take that first step towards their vision, instead of pushing them to a product that gives us an advantage.”

The new literature provides Case Studies of successful projects, demonstrating the attributes of multiple cladding systems. The case studies and photography which demonstrate the end result are supported with text which details the types of projects and aesthetics for which a system is best suited. The piece summarizes the recommendations with an easy to use Product Selection Guide and a ‘Good, Better, Best’ rating of varying systems by application and market.

Protean and Aluma Fab Merge

Protean Construction Products is pleased to announce that Aluma Fab Metal Sales became a wholly owned subsidiary of Protean Construction Products on January 1, 2017.

Protean has provided fabricating services to Aluma Fab since 1992, and ownership of the two companies has had significant overlap. However, the businesses have operated independently and competed with each other in the market.  With the merger of the two companies, Protean and Aluma Fab will focus on providing value to differing segments of the metal architectural cladding and accents marketplace, including column covers.

“If we are not helping our customers be successful, we are not going to be successful”, said Troy Ethen, President of Protean. “As we reviewed how these two businesses operated in the market place, we saw an opportunity for meeting additional needs.” Protean will continue to focus on project specific solutions to meet the needs of the architectural marketplace.  To do so, Protean will utilize their expanding network of Manufacturer’s Representatives to help Architects select and specify the metal wall panel systems to most cost effectively achieve their vision.  Aluma Fab will focus on providing more standardized products to meet the needs of contractors and subcontractors who are sourcing column covers, ACM panels and aluminum plate panels for projects where a fabricator may not be specified.

Protean Launches Series 3000 Rainscreen Systems

Protean is pleased to announce the release of our AP-3000RS and ACM-3000RS rain screen systems.

These rain screen systems are engineered for use in extremely wet climates or for buildings that will be exposed to driving rain. These open joint systems allow for ease of installation and the spline joint covers the panel joints. This design further reduces the possibility of moisture getting behind the panel as compared to our more economical AP-2000RS and ACM-2000RS systems, and exceeds the design requirements of ASTM E283, E330 & E331.

The extruded frame and non-welded corners of the 3000 series provide a more crisp and clean edge for an improved aesthetic. The design also has the added advantage of being singularly removable. As such, damaged panels can be replaced, or problem areas can be accessed easily if vapor barrier or structural issues arise.

The 3000 series extends Protean’s existing rainscreen offering. Our rainscreens support the architectural trend towards lower maintenance costs and greater sustainability. Rainscreen systems utilize water and/or vapor barriers behind semi-pervious cladding. Although this method can add to the upfront cost of the construction, the life cycle costs are lower than conventional wet sealed systems because caulking at the panel to panel joints does not need to be installed or replaced, and deterioration of other materials is reduced via UV protection provided by the cladding. Rainscreen systems also reduce energy costs by eliminating thermal bridging. Rainscreens provide a breathable skin that allows for equalization against negative wind pressure and the subsequent drainage or evaporation of rain water that by-passes the cladding but does not penetrate the rain barrier. As with all Protean panel systems, our 3000 series panels are reinforced for superior flatness over the life cycle of the product. In our rainscreens, this reduced deflection improves the aesthetic and maintains the drainage plane for superior drying performance.

Protean rainscreen systems are available in Aluminum Composite Material (ACM) and Aluminum Plate (AP). ACM is the best choice for a tight budget without sacrificing the aesthetic. AP is the material of choice for longer service life, as it will not delaminate. AP also has a better fire rating and provides greater color flexibility, especially on smaller projects.
